Aims and Purposes of the ESHHS
The purpose of ESHHS is to promote international, multidisciplinary cooperation in scholarly activity and research in the history of the human sciences. The Society supports the history and historiography of the human sciences in their broadest sense, including psychology, pedagogy, sociology, anthropology, political science, criminology, linguistics and so forth, as well as relevant specialisations within biology, history and philosophy, for example. The Society is free from affiliation to any particular discipline or scholarly tradition. It is truly international in membership and outlook, with members from nearly every European country, North America, and many other parts of the world. The Society uses the English language in its activities.
The aims of the ESHHS are to:
- provide a broad perspective on contemporary scientific activities in order to counteract the narrow views of various disciplines and their interactions;
- broaden scientific perspective by close cooperation with scholars in other countries;
- strengthen and increase professionalism of scholarly research in the history of the human sciences.

Martin Wieser
President
Martin Wieser is Full Professor of General Psychology/History of Psychology at Sigmund Freud Private University Berlin. His research focusses on the history of modern Western Psychology in its social, political and cultural contexts.

Junona S. Almonaitienė
Treasurer
Junona S. Almonaitienė is an associate professor of the Health Psychology Department, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences. Author and co-author of scientific articles, editor and co-author of the textbooks widely used in Lithuanian higher education, and a series of travel and cultural guidebooks. Areas of her scientific interests – history of psychology in the Baltic region; qualitative research on Self and identity in social contexts.

Janka Kormos
Secretary
Janka Kormos is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Cyprus. Janka researches movement and dance studies and embodied practices in the 20th-century history of psychological and medical sciences. As a Fulbright scholar in 2023, Janka compiled a standalone archival collection for the Polish-Jewish, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Judith S. Kestenberg, which is now housed at the Manuscript Division of the Library of Congress (USA).

Jack Duggan
Communications Officer
Jack Duggan is an AHRC-funded PhD Candidate at the University of Leicester. Their research focuses on the history of marginalised people and communities in the UK. Jack has partnered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) to produce a critical history of how the BPS may have promoted, perpetuated, or failed to challenge harm to marginalised communities.
